Contemporary Maori Art

Since 1998, I have been creating artworks and feel passionate about the process of exploring a range of media. I spent the early part working in sculpture particularly Whakairo (Carving) with native timber, while studying at Toihoukura. Currently I am working in acrylics and mixed mediums on canvas. Printmaking and mixed media on paper. Lastly exploring with acrylic on Waka ama paddles.

My Kaupapa ( Subject), explores my identity as Ngai Tamaterangi, my  hapu (subtribe) and as late I have finished a series that explores article one, two and three of the Treaty ( Te Tiriti O Waitangi) 1840, a crucial document which defies the relationship between Maori and the crown in Aotearoa. I have used the pou as a living force to look at these issues.
